Just as we enter the busy Christmas delivery period, Australia’s posties are sounding the alarm over a threat to their safety.
Australia Post says more than 50 of its delivery workers are being attacked by dogs every week, some resulting in serious injuries and time off work for the postie.
With their busiest period of the year upon us, the nation’s posties are imploring us to keep our dogs secure and protect their local postie.
Rod Maule, Australia Post general manager of safety and wellbeing, says not securing your dog could mean you don’t receive your deliveries.
“We see a lot of incidents occur at the front door as our posties try to deliver packages, with dogs racing out from behind their owners,” he says.
“It takes just a second to secure your dog in another room, and it makes the world of difference to our team members.
“We know our customers are eager to get their deliveries, however our team’s safety comes first, if it’s not safe for our posties to approach a home, then they won’t be able to deliver.”
