Today is Aged Care Employee Day, a day to say a big thanks to the compassionate staff who look after our older loved ones in residential care, home and community care, retirement living and seniors housing.

The Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA), who are behind the day, are organising a number of morning and afternoon teas today to mark the occasion.

Tom Symondson, ACCPA CEO, says workers in aged care had “gone above and beyond the call of duty” in this past 12 months and continue to face immense challenges in providing care and support for older Australians.

“We want to keep in mind the almighty effort put in by aged care workers and encourage the public to take a moment and say, ‘thank you for caring’,” he says.

“Aged Care Employee Day has become an important date in our calendar and reminds us of the caring and professional work of our aged care staff. They’re the backbone, the people who support our elders day in and day out.

“We also want to encourage aged care staff to take a moment for themselves to regroup, take a breath, and recharge. They all deserve our thanks for their professionalism, their warmth, and their enthusiasm to help older Australians live comfortably.”

To all the Agedcare workers in Opal Murdoch who cared for my wife Susan Hammond you are forever inscribed in our hearts.
