CHOICE food and household product testers have had their usual busy year and this is their pick of the best-tasting, best-performing or best-value products that shone above the rest.
1. Kerrygold Pure Irish Salted Butter
CHOICE says: We taste tested and reviewed 44 supermarket butters, from brands including Allowrie, Devondale, Lurpak, Mainland, Pepe Saya and Western Star. This golden performer creamed the competition with a score of 79 per cent. Equal-second place went to another European butter and an Australian butter, Meander Valley Salted Butter Cultured.
2. Morning Fresh Ultra Concentrate Dishwashing Liquid
CHOICE says: Morning Fresh Ultra Concentrate Dishwashing Liquid scored much higher than the rest of the contenders in the best dishwashing liquids review with an expert rating of 90 per cent (the product in the second spot scored 65 per cent).
3. Coles Smooth Peanut Butter
CHOICE says: Coles Smooth Peanut Butter was rated the best smooth peanut butter with a score of 83 per cent. It was also one of the cheapest, costing just 70 cents per 100g.
4. Vanish NapiSan Oxi Advance Crystal White Gold Whitening Power
CHOICE says: Vanish NapiSan Oxi Advance Crystal White Gold Whitening Power was the best powder stain removers with a score of 74 per cent.
5. Little Ones Ultra Dry Size 1 newborn
CHOICE says: These tiny but mighty newborn nappies scored equal-first in the newborn category of our disposable nappies test and, great news for parents on a budget, cost almost half the price as the other first-place holder, Huggies.
6. Finish Powerball Quantum Ultimate Pro Tabs Dishwasher Detergent
CHOICE says: This powerhouse product squeezed out the competition with a score of 76 per cent.
7. Aldi Colway Creamy Squeezy Mayonnaise
CHOICE says: It may be from the ‘budget supermarket’ but this mayonnaise well and truly outclassed the other 33 more expensive (and better known) brands.
8. iCare double length toilet paper
CHOICE says: We lab tested and compared toilet paper from Coles, Woolworths, Who Gives A Crap, Kleenex, Quilton and more and iCare wiped out its competitors in the value stakes for scoring high but costing less. The top scorer with 78 per cent was Quilton Royal Soft Weave Toilet Tissue, costing 56c per 100 sheets. But for better value, the iCare double length paper came in just three percentage points less, but is almost half the price at 30c per 100 sheets.
9. Daley St Medium Dark Roast pods
CHOICE says: These pods that came out on top with a rating of 75 per cent.
10. Dettol Healthy Clean Kitchen
CHOICE says: Dettol Healthy Clean Kitchen received a top score or 90 per cent, just ahead of Ajax Professional Kitchen and Jif Power and Shine.
