The bloke who felt it was a good idea to carve his name into the Colosseum has been identified and his excuse is he didn’t know how old it was.
My goodness. So many issues to unpack here. The wretched tourism mindset that believes it’s okay to carve things into monuments, the stupidity of trying to claim you didn’t know how old it was, the complete lack of shame.
Anyway, he’s been caught and named. He’s Ivan Dimitrov of Bristol and he’s now facing fines of up to 15,000 Euros and a possible prison sentence.
I doubt he will see the inside of a jail, put hopefully the episode will put a dent in his savings account.
I once saw a pack of tourists climb over the safety fence at the Twelve Apostles to take some selfies. They reeked of alcohol and I’m not going to lie, I kind of hoped at least one would slip at least a little bit.
I knew that if there had been a fall it would be framed as some sort of tragedy, instead of the consequences of their stupid, stupid actions.
What’s your story of tourists behaving badly?
