Most people probably believe that online banking is more popular with younger generations and that older Aussies prefer the personal touch. Not so, according to a new survey.

The survey, commissioned by Savvy, found that online banking was least popular among 18 to 24-year-olds (45 per cent) and most popular with 55 to 64-year-olds (83 per cent).

By contrast, the use of monthly banking apps was highest among younger age groups and lowest among older Australians: 78 per cent for those aged 25-34, 76 per cent for aged 18-24, but only 50 per cent for 55 to 64-year-olds and 35 per cent for those aged 65 and over.

When it comes to use of Apple Pay, 67 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds are regular users compared with 10 per cent of those aged 55 to 64 and only 3 per cent of those aged 65 and over.

What’s your preference when it comes to day-to-day banking?
