If you’re a lover of spicy food like me, you will no doubt have noticed the iconic Huy Fong brand of sriracha sauce has been missing from supermarket shelves.
Sold in the iconic clear bottle emblazoned with a rooster and topped with a green lid, Huy Fong brand sriracha sauce has cult following both in Australia and around the world.
The lack of sriracha on the shelves is due to drought conditions in Mexico – where chillis for the sauce are grown. This year’s chilli season has not produced enough chillies suitable for the sauce, Huy Fong says, and they would halt production until after US Labor Day (2 September) when the next chilli season starts.
It’s resulted in a lack of Huy Fong sriracha sauce around the world, until supplies can be replenished.
Both Coles and Woolies have not stocked the sauce brand for months. Huy Fong may be the original sriracha sauce, but it’s not the only one. Both major supermarkets stock sriracha sauce from other brands including Trident, Flying Goose and Tiao Hu.
Do you eat sriracha sauce? What have you been using as an alternative?
