A bakery in South Australia has been awarded Australia’s best sausage roll for the second year in a row.
Banana Boogie Bakery in Belair was awarded the gong at the Baking Association of Australia (BAA) South Australian Baking Show last weekend.
And pastry was the real winner. Banana Boogie owner Jason Spencer said their flaky enclosures praised by the judges.
“The head judge at the end of the night said ‘your pastry is just impeccable’, like he can’t fault it,” he told 7News.
“He said ‘your pastry got you over the line this year’.”
For those who want to make the trek to try the winning roll, Belair is about 20 minutes south of the Adelaide CBD.
BAA executive officer Tony Smith said the sausage roll also won points for its “neutral flavour”.
“Their meat filling was smooth and not dry and the flavour was what we call neutral/balanced,” he told 7NEWS.com.au.
That doesn’t sound good, if I’m honest.
“This is to say that it wasn’t overpowered by salt or onion etcetera.”
Okay, I understand it now.
Do you make your own sausage rolls? What’s your tip?
