A record 1,264,952 fans bought AFL club memberships in 2023, with grand finalist Collingwood leading the pack with 106,470 members. The Pies’ opponent on Saturday, the Brisbane Lions, has about half that with 54,676 members.
But which teams have the most supporters?
The Sydney Swans topped the annual Roy Morgan AFL supporters ladder as the only club with more than 1 million supporters. The Roy Morgan survey found the Swans have 1,344,000 supporters, an increase of 209,000 and the biggest increase of any club over the past 12 months.
The most widely supported club in Victoria, Collingwood, has 875,000 supporters, an increase of 169,000. The Pies are just ahead of the Brisbane Lions, which has 826,000 supporters, an increase of 105,000.
In fourth place are 2023 wooden spooners the West Coast Eagles with 697,000 supporters. Despite finishing last, the Eagles managed to maintain their support from a year ago with a marginal increase of 3000.
