Australia’s drinkers may be surprised to learn that Canberra is home to the nation’s lowest average beer prices.

Research from the Brewers Association of Australia (BAA) has found the average price of a schooner in the nation’s capital was $7.50.

Australia’s most expensive beer, according to the research, can be found in Adelaide, where a schooner will set you back $9.14.

The research was conducted ahead of a planned increase to the beer tax from 1 February, which the BAA says will cause beer prices to rise by around 3.7 per cent.

      Are you a beer drinker?

I’ve never recorded the prices of beer in pubs and clubs I frequent but $9 a schooner seems to be regular price in pubs & clubs I visit – so $9.14 in STH Australia is either nothing new or a reasonable deal. Suggest you review the HUGE price increases in cans and stubbies where $25 a 6 pack is the norm.

Beer as a low alcohol beverage is excessively taxed
The only venues selling beer at a more reasonable price are at rsls to rsl members
Gone are the days of happy hours at pubs
Forget night clubs for any form of alcohol
