KSSParticipant
It’s not just male tennis players who exhibit appalling behaviour. Consider other sportsmen from other games that use a variety of different shaped balls. But no matter the shape or size of the ball, the common denominator is the badly behaved are all men! You don’t see such behaviour from the women’s cricket, rugby, WALF, soccer, league, tennis or any other sport. Perhaps the reason is that women’s sport is not funded the way men’s sport is and most of the players still have jobs in the real world. Female sportswomen are not treated like demi-gods who can do no wrong, they are not paid ridiculous amounts at young ages and they don’t have battalions of people telling them how great they are whilst enabling the bad behaviour. And all this is aided and abetted by the Australian public who love it all as long as their ‘team’, or player is winning.
KSSParticipantKids have no reason to be using mobile phones in class so I agree they should be turned off, handed in and returned at the end of the school day. If helicopter parents need/want to contact their child during school hours they can do it the ‘old-fashioned’ way and call the school office. All laptops, tablets and computers should not have access to social media so that the kids can spend their time doing school work not wasting time or worse bullying other kids.
5 September 2022 at 11:32 am in reply to: Oops! Family given $10.4 million refund instead of $100 #1710135KSSParticipantIt is an offense to retain moneys paid to you that clearly do not belong to you. I would suggest that not decarling $10.4 MILLION would satisfy that an offense has been committed. This is not the first time this has happened and probably will not be the last. Keeping the money that obviously does not belong to you is theft.
KSSParticipantThere are estimates that the COVID numbers for new cases are about 50% below the actual numbers. This is down to some people not reporting a positive test result, others not doing the test correctly and getting a false negative result, and still others doing a test too early for the viral load to be adequate to register.
And you are right about people getting a positive test result, not reporting g the result and continuing to go out and about. Complacency and selfishness abound these days.
KSSParticipantThe COVID virus, like all viruses, has one job – to survive and replicate. To do that it needs a host – people (or other animals like bats, cats dogs etc). When the virus was first identified, there was no experience of it in humans so the virus was able to infect easily. Then, as viruses do, they began to make mistakes in the replication and new variants were born e.g. DELTA. By the time we had DELTA, we also had vaccines and people were being vaccinated against serious illness and death – not against infection. For the virus that made things more difficult. The more people became vaccinated, the fewer hosts were available for DELTA to infect, replicate and spread. The virus is a cunning and slippery customer. In order to preserve itself, it mutated – there were over 50 differences identified between OMICRON and the original DELTA variant – mostly on the spike protein. This meant that OMICRON could break through any immunity for either previous infection or through vaccination. This is what happened at the end of last year and January this year. Then as before, the OMICRON virus continued to mutate and we have two sub-groups B4 + B5 which have caused the problems over the last few months. The 4th dose of vaccine has boosted immunity but not as well as before given it was originally targeting DELTA. That’s why Moderna (and Pfizer not far behind) has developed this new vaccine version targeting OMICRON and the children of OMICRON – B4 and B5. In the not-too-distant future, it is possible that we will need regular booster doses (much like flu) but we need more information about the duration of immunity. Remember it has only been 2/12 years and we are still learning about this particular virus.
The thing is this; whilst in Australia, we have very high vaccination rates, there are many countries that have not even got 10% of their population vaccinated with one dose never mind 4/5. As long as there are sites like that, there will be new variants and there is no telling whether they will be more or less infectious with each variant. OMICRON was 2-3 times more infectious than DELTA for example.
There have been many more COVID variants than most people know of but many were not a cause for concern. We can and should expect future waves of COVID which is why the current levels of complacency are a problem. COVID is not over no matter how much people may want it to be.
And a final point: we now know and accept long COVID as a genuine illness. This is where people are still suffering symptoms more than 3 months after their original infection. And we also now know that each time someone becomes infected, (and there are those who have had two or more infections) the long-term damage increases – it is cumulative with each infection no matter how mild the illness may have been. It is estimated between 5-20% of people who have had COVID will have long COVID. Consider this: up to Thursday last week Australia had had 10 MILLION cases, 9.5 of them since January this year. Even if we do the maths on just 5% that is half a million people still sick after COVID infection. And that does not account for what is expected to be a rise in diabetes, CoPD, liver and kidney disease, cognitive decline, heart conditions etc that will also come to light over time. COVID is not just another flu!
KSSParticipantWe need to wait for ATAGI to release the guidelines to see who will be in line for this or any other vaccine. The TGA has given provisional approval for its use in Australia but they do not set the guidelines. Given all other vaccines have included various categories of ‘vulnerable’ people in their roll-out, there is nothing to suggest this vaccine will be any different.
In my view after working with this for the last 21/2 years, we will be encouraged to accept another booster shot. We already know immunity wanes over time (and immunity from having been infected wanes faster than immunity through vaccination) so in all likelihood, a 5th (or for some a 6th) dose seems probable.
And don’t forget, as we move into spring/summer, the northern hemisphere is going into autumn/winter and we also know that COVID infections increase in cold weather. people are travelling now so it is reasonable to expect visitors and returning Australian will bring new variants with them. COVID is not over despite the high levels of complacency on show.
26 August 2022 at 6:23 pm in reply to: PM announces royal commission into ‘robodebt’ scheme #1712747KSSParticipantEven if your friend is deaf and disabled, clearly they were able enough to complete a TAFE course and therefore able enough to sign in at the start of each classroom attendance. Adults are generally entrusted with signing their own names on a register rather than the teacher reading out names and ticking them off. I just don’t buy that this friendx of yours could not sort out his own mistake with Centrelink. And if it is true, then perhaps the standards at TAFE need another Royal Commission investigation.
KSSParticipantNo you don’t Hola. There is no live virus in the flu vax so it is an absolute impossibility for it to infect you.
There are a few possible reasons for your symptoms:
You were already infected with flu before you had the flu vax
You were already infected with COVID-19 so nothing to do with the vaccine
You have become infected with one of the RSVs now circulating
If you have symptoms and yet return a negative RAT the strong advice is to get a PCR test. There are far too many RATs not picking up COVID infections (either because the test was done far too soon and the viral load is too low, user error, or the test does not pick up the BA2.4 and BA2.5 variants).
The last reason maybe you have mounted a strong immune response to the vaccine. This may show in cold/flu symptoms but is short-lived. It is a sign of a good response to the vaccine.
22 June 2022 at 12:27 pm in reply to: Older drivers beware: don’t get caught out like I did #1712162KSSParticipantI don’t have much sympathy for Ian Pryor or his ilk. Frankly, if you don’t know when your license expires perhaps it’s time to hand it in!
And if you don’t and you go to some random GP who does not know you or your medical history then I would expect nothing less than a full work-over. It should never be a tick-and-flick exercise to retain a driving license.
After all, it is not unknown for people to be very economical with the truth when it comes to retaining driving privileges.
KSSParticipantBut realistically, how many of those you-bewt features and capabilities do the average person actually need or use? I suspect very few. Apple products are just not worth the ridiculous prices nor are the restrictive practices that Apple uses.
KSSParticipantThe biggest problem with this about-turn on day 1 of the new government is that this family has taken their case to every court and every court has ruled they are not genuine refugees. Had they returned to Sri Lanka at the beginning they would have been able to apply for residency and return legally. But no! The do-gooders have prolonged their detention and then blame everyone but themselves. The message this sends to every other illegal arrival is quite simply the wrong one. This family should not have been granted residency but returned from whence they came.
KSSParticipantSo Axel you get your information from The Personage! Hahahahaha! No wonder you are so ill informed. Even basic information on that site is just plain wrong they even claim that at 1.86m tall he only weighs 45kg!
And you really need to do a bit more research into other spurious claims such as that made by Susan Katzeka who claims he is worth an even more ludicrous $43 million. Look her up. She confuses our current PM with the CFO of Ball Corporation in the USA! https://susankatzkeating.com/scott-morrison-net-worth-age-height/ and https://investors.ball.com/corporate-governance/leadership/default.aspx?_ga=2.181682660.2101378295.1652736931-237792844.1652736931
And check out the publicly available information on the assets of both Mr Morrison (one home – the family home) and Mr Albanese (4 homes – 2 in Sydney and 2 in Canberra). Being one-eyed is fine that’s your choice. But you will not gain anything from continuing to peddle falsehoods except damage to your own credibility.
KSSParticipantBet you did not refuse the handouts during COVID, the increases in the pension or the cost of living payments all given under Mr Morrison thogh!
KSSParticipantAxel: Mr Albanese has a property portfolio worth $5 MILLION with property in Sydney and Canberra. Mr Morrison owns the family home in Sydney and that’s it! Mr Albanese is the multimillionaire. So criticise Mr Albanese on those grounds NOT Mr Morrison.
And as for Mr Albanese ‘humble background’ so what? There are millions just like him. He is no more in touch with people not in politics than anyone else. Mr Albanese has been in politics his entire working life. He has never held a ‘real job’. What would he know? As for the compassion card, all very well to pull out the sob-backstory to get votes, but that puts him in the category of the talentless entrants in ‘reality TV”.
KSSParticipantNy19, hahahahahahahahaha! “people getting to know Albanese”….. he has been in politics for 20 years and he IS known – as a hard left union laborite! His recent ‘change’ is nothing but smoke and mirrors, hiding his real intentions.
KSSParticipantAgree
KSSParticipantSo jaybee, all you are doing is cutting and pasting from an undeclared source and not in fact giving a considered appraisal of Mr Morrison’s Government record.
Yes, there have been mistakes and even missteps along the way, but no government of any hue has had to deal with ‘unprecedented’ fires, a worldwide ongoing pandemic – the first in over 100 years, and more ‘unprecedented’ floods. Just what do you think the ALP would have done in the same circumstances? Mr Albanese demanded Jobkeeper, Homebuilder, support for small business and other support should have been continued beyond what it was, yet complains now about the debt that was incurred saving businesses and jobs through the financial assistance at the time. The decisions made by the Federal Government during the pandemic has positioned Australia well now. Were there vaccination and RAT supply issues – yes worldwide! BUT Australia is now one of the most vaccinated populations in the world, with one of the lowest COVID infection and death rates. SO not all bad then. And the delays were for a matter of weeks – soon overcome.
Surely critics should be looking at the promises made at the last election and assess whether those were met or not. They promised more jobs – tick, they promised lower taxes – tick, they promised greater national security/defence spending – tick. Perhaps other promises were overlooked because of the pandemic and no doubt you will find another list to copy.
Mr Albanese has had nothing to say for three years and is not saying much now – other than insulting Mr Morrison. I want to know how he is going to pay for the free childcare for 90% of users, housing for the ‘vulnerable’, aged care wage increases, installing a registered nurse 24/7 in every aged care home, his ‘climate policy’, 45000 fee-free TAFE places, national reconstruction fund, rewire the nation, 50 Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (a rehash of Keven Rudd 2007 which BTW failed) and we are only on day 3!
We need less of the invective and personal commentary, and more detail on what is being promised. Change for change sake is never a good idea.
KSSParticipantYour own description of how you think women should behave just goes to prove how powerful women have become Lucca. You would clearly be totally unable to survive without the little woman in your kitchen clutching your brown fluffy slippers awaiting your return. I just hope the bacon you are meant to bring home is worth the wait!
KSSParticipantYes Lucca, men ARE already making such a declaration and it cannot be challenged because trans people suffer trauma if you do. Consider the attempt at erasing ‘women’ and ‘girls’ with the renaming of pregnant women to pregnant people, breastfeeding becomes chest-feeding, the furore at the moment in women’s sport with ‘men’ demanding entry to female sports teams, schools dictating that terms such as ‘Mum and Mother’ be replaced with grown-ups, Adele at the recent UK awards being slammed for declaring she is proud to be and likes being a woman (because the best female singer award which she won has been renamed best singer award). All these things do nothing for women and even less for men.
And for your information, you do not have to choose to undergo transgender operations and body reassignment to declare yourself any gender you choose. However, due to the indoctrination of even primary school children, there is already a great increase in pharmaceutical therapeutic intervention in children as young as 10 – 11 to prevent puberty and an increase in gender reassignment surgery in those under 18! So yes, we are having a rush on transgender medical interventions.
KSSParticipantSurely the rate of super payment is exactly equal now- mandated by law currently 10%. If you are fortunate enough to work in an organisation that pays more than the mandated amount, it is equally applied to both men and women and those undecided! being paid more simply because you identify as female is discrimination of the highest order. I can see it now, half the male population declaring themselves ‘female’ to ‘earn’ the higher super. After all, you are not allowed to question the veracity of such a claim.
