Yes, all gambling ads should be banned, even Lotto. This addictions causes so much grief for many families. I personally hate when one of those ads come on and they repeat it every break.
14 September 2024 at 6:19 pm in reply to: Protestors can be annoying, but we still need the right to protest #1842355MochaParticipantPeaceful protests, yes, as long as it doesn’t interfer with other commuters trying to get to work. But this rabble the other day, and how many other days have they protested, are an unauthorized mob of dissidents. The police started wielding batons after the horses were attacked by so called protesters. This rabble need to be dispersed quickly as they don’t care who they attack if you don’t agree with their agenda. This will continually get worse, as it is in the UK.
MochaParticipantLet’s get this right, she has written her biography and is now peddling her book. What a way to start up the conversation about having breast cancer. I saw one interview about this, so could not be bothered watching 60 minutes last night. Everyone should seek medical advice, but you can also use holistic approaches combined with medical science. There are doctors now who actually combine the two. But the first port of call is to actually get a medical diagnosis and the rest can follow depending what your needs are.
19 August 2024 at 10:28 am in reply to: Period products classed as ‘lifestyle related’ under draft plan #1839836MochaParticipantBill Shorten is a joke. I saw him do an interview re the NDIS and he shows his contempt by not even feigning concern. This is the same as when GST was applied to sanitary products – women get ripped off yet again. Menstrating is a bodily response for a woman so is part of a biological woman’s body.
MochaParticipantNo, she did not give it a red-hot go, she did a disservice to the other Olympians, especially her competitors, who have trained for years and are at the top of their sports. First it needs to be looked at how she was even allowed to compete. Other sports have distinct qualifying methods (times, proven record of achievment, etc), this woman was allowed to go to Paris with her coach (husband) for a tax funded holiday plus the funding she received from the AIS. I just hope that in future the governing sporting bodies only take the athletes that meet the high standards that are expected in any sport on offer for Olympics or Commonwealth Games. It doesn’t matter if she is a “nice”person or not, she was awful and an embarrassment.
MochaParticipantI will always have a look at Amazon, but I will also cross check with other retailers to see which company has the best deal (price, postage, sale). Unfortunately, you can’t buy everything Australian made/sold here. The only problem with Amazon is if it is an expensive electrical item that is sold through another party, you can have problems with getting your money back. This happened to me, but luckily after many emails, etc finally got all the money back, but it was a hard slog as was having to deal with a Chinese company.
MochaParticipantFunny the Italians haven’t banned throwing coins into the Trevi Fountain.
MochaParticipantI do think this couple sound greedy, as they can get help to generate an income higher than the pension. The only thing is they will lose their health care card, and as we all know medication isn’t cheap. There has to be a more effective pension system then there is now, it is very divisive with who is eligible for whatever subsidies there are, as not all SFR’s are rolling in money – even if the young people think Boomers are all extremely wealthy. I’d be very happy if I had won that million dollars.
MochaParticipantNo we do not need medicare for pets. If anything dental should be added to human medicare. Why would the HECS fees be waived for Vetrinary students when there are so many other health students who will be paying off their debts for decades. I’m sorry but if you can’t afford a pet then you can’t and if you can than you take out insurance. Unfortunately, we need to look at human hospitals to cater for the many people that are on long waiting lists, get ramped in an ambulance or wait for hours in ER.
1 July 2024 at 10:15 am in reply to: Should politicians be forced to retire at a certain age? #1836200MochaParticipantThere should be an age limit, possibly around 70. Most pollies are career politicians and most have never worked in what we call “the real world”. Some of them probably could be earning more in their respective areas if they have a degree, but they know if they hang around long enough they’ll pick up some juicy job via the government.
MochaParticipantAt the moment there is only one side being told about this story, it would be interesting to hear what the cafe staff witnessed. If you are working, go to your workplace, a park bench or home and do your work. Ok if you are purchasing items, but really when you’ve finished you need to pack your equipment up and leave soon after.
MochaParticipantWhy is this article here? I don’t care if men wear skirts, but they had better not say they are a woman.
MochaParticipantHot Cross Buns in certain sections of our society signifies something that they believe in. I do not believe that we have the right to take that away from them. Do you do this to other religions that live as part of our nation? It just seems to me that Christians are just expected to roll over and take whatever is thrown at them.
MochaParticipantI’m completely underwhelmed, this is the OG that no one else wanted. Instead of just using Brisbane it should be over the state to put in infastructure in regional centres, bring in more tourism, employment, etc.. The government have procrastinated for so long about stadiums, it is really pushing the boat to get venues settled on, work started and finished. There are so many other areas this money could be used on instead of the Olympic Games. Or the other way to run it is make it a boutique games, smaller venues, smaller amounts of people – but, oh wait, not enough money to help recoupe some small amount of the money that will be poured into the games.
MochaParticipantI get so tired of this endless debate. Not every private school has high fees and cater for more disadvantaged children via scholarships and not all parents are extremely highly paid. Every child should be paid for equally via the varying governments whether they go to public or private. All it is that private schools have their fees added on so be able to pay their teachers better wages and offer facilities to their pupils. Let parents decide where they want to send their children as each school public/private offer differing aspects for their children. The public system would be totally overrun if private schools closed their doors so some common sense should come into this debate.
MochaParticipantYes, my first job used to get it in the envelope every fortnight. Then when I moved jobs it become a fortnightly cheque – how things have changed.
8 March 2023 at 10:30 am in reply to: Big Powerball winner still a mystery … could it be you? #1792835MochaParticipantPersonally, if I had won I wouldn’t be coming forward either. Wait a year or so and then present the ticket so hopefully you fly under the radar. That’s one reason I am not registered as I wouldn’t want my name and photo splashed all over the media to alert undesirables to my wearabouts and what I look like.
16 February 2023 at 10:33 am in reply to: Should we turn off the tax dollar tap to private schools? #1790032MochaParticipantIt really irks me when someone always says that private schools should receive no government assistance. ALL children are entitled to receive funding, but remember the private school system receives from federal NOT state government. The majority of people who send their children to private schools are not elite, but hard working middle class (white and blue collar) workers. There are very few elite schools like Kings College in the grand scheme of private schools. One person also mentioned the fact of buses – have you tried to book buses for excursions, camps, sporting venues, etc – I have, and it is not easy now. In the long term it works out much cheaper for parents and there is a dedicated service to rely upon. The world has changed much from the 60/70/80’s that alot of us lived through so sometimes we have to reconsider our thinking.
MochaParticipantI use a fuel app to find the cheapest fuel in the area as you need to shop around. I even took out a Costco membership as their fuel is usually the cheapest around – sometimes 12c per litre cheaper. I don’t understand why people don’t use apps to their advantage once you know about them as they can save you hundreds over the year. I’ve used the 7Eleven app also and it works a treat. People have just got to get a bit more savvy with using new technology. If I’m unsure I find You Tube works wonders in finding out a solution to whatever you are trying to find.
MochaParticipantThe netballers need to get a reality check. No Gina does not have to apologize for what her father said. All the good work that she puts into the mining industry and setting up education, skills and jobs for indigenous workers speaks louder than words – she is doing, not just talking about do things. I have no idea what Victorians will think about their state government coughing up the money – saying it will bring in tourists. It will bring in some, but netball doesn’t have the same amount of followers as the football codes have. In the end Netball Australia got themselves into a huge financial debt and one must ask how did this happen.
