I worked in Libraries for 46 years and so agree with every one of your sentiments. There is something wonderful about a physical book and the ease with which one is able to flip back and forth between pages to look back to check something previously read. And, as you said, the feel, smell and joy invoked by holding a physical book is something I will always treasure.
That being said, there are sometimes advantages to ebooks. I always take my Kindle with me on holidays. It saves a lot of weight when packing. I’m never quite sure what I will want to read, so being able to take a large selection in a Kindle, makes life much easier. Also, as I get older, my arthritis (probably caused by years of lugging books around my beloved libraries) has started to make it a bit harder to hold some books, and even to turn the pages at times. My Kindle is light and a simple tap will turn the page.
I will always love and value my books, but, at the same time, an ebook reader can make life easier.

Our local hotel has charged a “cake-age” for quite a while if you bring your own cake. I think it’s generally fair enough, as it’s not just cutting the cake, you also get plates and spoons for everyone and a sparkler fizzing away as they bring it out on a plate they’ve provided. This not only takes time, but everything needs to be washed afterwards.
Their cakes are usually reasonably priced, although special dietary requests can make the price exhorbitant.
We generally go back to someone’s house for cake if we’re not going to be using one of their cakes.

What a stupid idea. If you’re returning something that you’ve bought online, it has to be repacked and forms usually filled in etc. You’ll end up spending half the day in the Post Office fiddling around, let alone taking up excessive time with the staff while trying to organize it all. And has anyone yet found a quick and easy way to open a clithing parcel, in one of those soft plastic bags which ard not designed to be opened?
