It’s probably safe to say that we’re all looking forward to seeing the back of Election 2016 and, as of 2 July, that wish will be granted.
It’s been a long campaign, punctuated by bluffs, blunders, bullying and, well, boredom. We’ve seen a campaign of minimal policy announcements, a lot of posturing and playground politics. One thing that has become glaringly obvious is that Australian voters have had enough. I quote Fairfax Media’s chief political correspondent Mark Kenny when he said: “You can make an election twice as long, but that doesn’t make it twice as interesting. In fact, it makes it twice as boring.”
You’ve pretty much hit the nail on the head Mr Kenny.
As we head to the polls on Saturday, we’ll all put pencil to paper and make our final call on who is best suited to running the country. The two major parties are clearly the giants of this title fight, with The Greens, along with Nick Xenophon and minions, potentially playing decider. There is even the possibility that 2 July could be known as ‘Independents Day’. Either way, we look forward to saying goodbye to the political pantomime we have all witnessed for the last eight weeks.
So, to wrap things up in a light-hearted manner, the ABC has released the Election 2016 campaign illustrated ‘emoji-style’. We thought it would be fun to share it with you.
