Osteoporosis affects over 1 million Australians and over 155,000 broken bones are expected this year from poor bone health.
Osteoporosis Australia cares about growing bones in kids, healthy bones in adults and preventing broken bones as we get older. This year it’s telling all Australians: Love your bones. Protect your future.
In June this year Osteoporosis Australia, with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, jointly launched ‘Know Your Bones’ – an online fracture prevention initiative that asks Australians to get to know their bones as a first step to better bone health. An Australian-first bone health self-assessment tool, ‘Know Your Bones’ is designed to help people understand their bone fracture risk.
It is now available to all adults, including the 7.5 million Australians living with brittle bones. In the months since the launch, thousands of Australians have used Know Your Bones to get to know their bone fracture risk and think about a plan for the future, for healthy bones.
In the spirit of World Osteoporosis Day: Love your bones. Protect your future, why not take the Know Your Bones health assessment today – it only takes five minutes. Visit www.knowyourbones.org.au and take the test. You’ll then be able to print out a report and take it to your doctor to discuss your risk of fracture and a suitable action plan – couldn’t be simpler!
