As many of you know, when you access medical services, you can be bulk billed or given a patient account for those services.
Bulk billing is when your doctor bills Medicare directly and accepts the Medicare benefit as full payment for their service. This means you do not have any out-of-pocket expenses.
A patient account is when your doctor charges you a fee and you claim the appropriate portion of the schedule fee back through Medicare. The difference between the total account and your Medicare refund is called a ‘gap payment’.
Many doctors bulk bill some of their patients, such as pensioners or health care cardholders. If your doctor bulk bills, you will be asked to sign a completed form after the service and will be given a copy.
How would you like access to a directory that lists all types of medical practitioners, from doctors and dentists to psychologists and optometrists?
Finding a doctor that bulk bills is now easier with the HealthEngine app.
HealthEngine is essentially a search engine for health services in Australia and it allows you to narrow your search to service providers that bulk bill, saving you hours of scanning through Google searches.
As well as helping to find bulk billing services, the HealthEngine app allows users to book on their phones. You can also book an appointment online.
Have you ever had problems finding a GP that would provide bulk billing?
