Foods for your ‘little fella’

Forget the prescription pills, dodgy internet drugs, penis pumps and surgery, because some foods may actually help out your prostate and Erectile Dysfunction (ED) issues more than you may be aware.

Here are a few of them.

Coffee
That cup of coffee you have each day IS more than just a pick-me-up: it may also help pick up something else as well. In fact, one study shows that two to three cups of coffee per day greatly reduces the occurrence of ED, because caffeine helps to improve blood flow.

Dark chocolate
Around 30g of dark chocolate three times a week will not only help out your heart, but also parts a little further south. That’s because chocolate is rich in flavanols – plant nutrients that can increase blood flow and lower blood pressure. It also helps your body make more nitric oxide, which is found in many ED medicines.

Watermelon
Watermelon contains a compound that can have an effect on your blood vessels, similar to ED meds. And could help to ramp up your sex drive. It also has lycopene, an antioxidant that’s good for your heart, prostate and skin.

Garlic
Garlic keeps your arteries healthy and clear as you age, keeping at bay the plaque that forms along your artery walls, which can lead to loss of circulation, especially to the parts that matter most when it comes to romance.

Fatty fish
Salmon and other fatty fish (e.g. sardines and herring) contain healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which are not only good for your heart, but also boost the nitric acid in your body.

Oysters
Oysters may increase your testosterone levels, which will obviously help with sex drive. They’re also full of zinc, another beneficial nutrient for your body.

Walnuts
Walnuts contain swags of arginine, which is an amino acid your body uses to make nitric oxide. You’ll also find plenty of vitamin E, folic acid, omega-3 fatty acids and fibre in walnuts, which will all do you good in many ways.

Juice
Grape juice and pomegranate juice both contain nutrients that increase the amount of nitric acid in your body.

Leafy greens
Kale is king as a nitric oxide booster. Leafy greens are packed with nutrients, vitamins and omega-3s – all super beneficial for a healthy sex life.

Peppers
The spicy stuff in jalapeno, cayenne, habanero and other chilli peppers relaxes your arteries, which increases the blood flow to your heart and ‘naughty’ parts. Chillies can also help to reduce blood pressure, reduce blood clots and reduce cholesterol.

Olive oil
As well as being one of those healthy oils, extra-virgin olive oil is believed to help your body produce more testosterone. And being full of good monounsaturated fats and healthy antioxidants, it helps to reduce the amount of bad cholesterol in your body.

(Editor’s note: the article previously mentioned that kale is a nitric acid booster, where it is in fact a nitric oxide booster. Thank you Dr Charlton for pointing that out to us!)
