Australian chef and food icon Maggie Beer has suffered minor bone fractures after a fall at home, her family has said on a social media post.
The beloved food personality lives and owns a farm in South Australia’s Barossa Valley.
In the statement her family said she sustained the bone fractures and “related injuries”.
“Thankfully Col, her husband, was there and she is now in the excellent hands of her doctors who are confident she will make a full recovery,” the Beer family said.
“It may just take a little while.
“More than anything else, Maggie hates letting people down. But she has multiple events and public engagements coming up that she may have to miss.
“She has asked us to apologise on her behalf to all those affected — and has asked for your patience as she recuperates.”
Messages of support and well wishes responded to the social media post, including from renowned chefs.
The culinary talent is an author and a television host, most recently seen in Maggie Beer’s Big Mission on ABC’s iview.
The show sets out to transform the meals and dining experience at an aged care home.
“People in aged care homes today are a resilient generation who have lived through world wars and the [Great] Depression,” Beer wrote for the ABC.
“I believe they deserve to enjoy fresh food full of flavour and goodness.”
