Confused about serving sizes? If so you may not be the only one. Researchers at George Institute for Global Health and National Heart Foundation analysed a range of products from different supermarkets and found products consistently exceeded what was considered a standard serving size. In the instance of Coca Cola, a serving on a two-litre bottle is listed as 250ml whereas on a can of the same product, it’s listed as 375ml. This means that it virtually impossible to gauge whether or not your exceeding your daily intake of a certain product.
One of the authors of the paper, Jason Wu said, “We could think of upper limits for different types of discretionary foods, not necessarily by 600kJ, given that a big part of public health intervention is about encouraging people to eat less of the discretionary food products,” he said.
