Did you see this? This image of an orphaned baby joey caused quite the stir around the world and it’s not hard to see why.
Proving that young animals are similar to young children, Tim Beshara, an advisor to Tasmanian Greens senator Peter Whish-Wilson, recently tweeted this adorable picture of an orphaned baby kangaroo hugging a teddy bear.
It’s unclear whether the joey fell out of his mother’s pouch or if his mother died, however, according to Beshara “he was a couple months old when he was passed onto my mother’s wildlife company WIRES.” Named, “Doodlebug”, the eastern grey kangaroo is being cared for by Gillian Abbott, on her property near Grafton in northern New South Wales.
Abbott has since nursed the joey back to health and Beshara added it is “now hopping around the forest and coming back for the occasional feeding or cuddle, as the image shows.” Doodlebug was originally given the teddy bear to play with and, at 15 months old, seems to respond to the toy much the same way as a toddler would.
With the photo quickly going viral, it’s been shared thousands of times internationally, with Ms Abbott saying, “I was really happy that my little boy made so many people happy”.
Proof that we all just need a big hug sometimes why not spread the love and share this beautiful photo with someone special?
