As the weather continues to cool down, the need to start adding extra layers increases. Many of us already have some options from last winter, but when it comes to coats and jackets, it’s always nice to have a new addition.

The Trench
While the classic Trench has never really gone out of fashion, it’s definitely a top trend for this Winter. So if you’ve already got one hiding in your wardrobe, it’s time to dust it off, but, if you don’t own one, then there’s never been a better time to invest.

The Biker
This trend can be trickier to pull off now than when you were younger. To avoid looking as if you’re trying too hard or are a ‘mutton dressed as a lamb’, opt for more toned down versions. The Biker is best in leather or suede, but choose a style that isn’t too tough, and wear it with softer pieces, so this piece becomes the statement and does the talking for your outfit.

A great weekend and casual option, the parka or anorak is another popular pick for this winter. Opt for one in a classic colour, such as kahki, stone, or another neutral tone.

The Long Coat
I am of the firm belief a good, warm coat is always worth the investment. This year it’s all about the long coat – all the better to keep you warm. Look for a classic double-breasted style or one with a waterfall collar. On that note, I would always choose a coat with a collar, as ones without can often be harder to coordinate outfits with, and tend to go out of fashion more easily.

Denim is back in a big way. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re a fan of the denim jacket, or have one hiding in your wardrobe, now is your time to shine. To make sure this is a weather-appropriate option, layer it over knits and finish with a statement scarf.
