Get rid of soap scum with this cleaning product combination!

A spotless bathroom can bring a sense of calm and order into our homes. However, keeping it sparkly clean can sometimes feel like a never-ending battle, especially against the dreaded soap scum that often clings to sinks.

Fortunately, a recent social media post has shown that even the most soap-scum-covered bathroom sink can be transformed with the right cleaning product combination.

The before-and-after photos shared by the uploader revealed that her sink went from grimy to gleaming.

The poster, who admitted to being slightly perfectionistic, expressed their determination to maintain the cleanliness of their sink in the future, stating, ‘Next time I’ll be cleaning the sink from the beginning, morning and night.’

They also shared that their sinks are ‘the most neglected parts’ of their apartment. Aside from frequently using them, they find it ‘annoying to clean’.

Seeing the sink’s remarkable transformation, many were curious and asked what they did to address their sink’s soap scum problem.

‘I used baking soda and a bit of Bar Keepers Friends. Baking soda worked better for the soap scum,’ they responded to one commenter. However, they did not specify which of the Bar Keepers Friends’ cleaning products they used.

Meanwhile, another social media user suggested, ‘If you quit using bar soap, that will help limit the build-up.’

Of course, after the transformation comes the maintenance. One easy hack that was suggested to prevent another soap scum build-up is to wipe over your sink with a cloth at the end of each day. This simple habit, perhaps done after brushing your teeth before bed, can apparently make a huge difference.

So keep some cleaning cloths handy in the bathroom, maybe in a container under the sink, to make this routine effortless.

For a more thorough clean, a weekly or fortnightly scrub with dishwashing liquid, vinegar and water, or your preferred cleaning agent, along with a non-scratch scourer or cleaning cloth, could ensure any lingering residue is banished from your sink.

But before you start scrubbing away, it’s crucial to know what material your sink is made from, as this will determine the best cleaning approach. Porcelain sinks, for example, should not be cleaned with abrasive scourers, while natural stone sinks can be damaged by acidic cleaners like vinegar.

If you would like to try using baking soda like the uploader who shared the cleaning transformation, simply sprinkle the product over the surface of your sink and scrub with a damp microfibre cloth before rinsing.

For tougher stains, you could try creating a paste with baking soda and dishwashing liquid. Apply this mixture to the sink and scrub it with a cloth. You can even let it sit for a few minutes to help break down the stains and residue.

In our quest for a clean and inviting home, it’s important to remember that regular maintenance is key. By incorporating these cleaning tips into your routine, you can ensure that your bathroom remains fresh and clean.
