Although BBQ season is pretty much all year round in most of Australia, the warmer months do see more of us cooking outdoors so it’s worth a timely reminder to check your BBQ for gas leaks.
CHOICE has the following simple checks you should undertake before lighting up your barbecue:
- Check the gas bottle for any damage or rust, if you find any, replace it.
- Check for gas leaks by spraying or brushing the gas bottle with a soapy water solution – bubbles will form if gas is escaping.
- Check the hose and hose ends on the gas bottle to make sure they haven’t perished. As a rough guide, replace hoses every five years.
- Check connections to make sure they’re clean and fit snugly.
