We are known for embracing the holiday spirit with enthusiasm every festive season, and this year, a new trend has emerged, creating a festive craze.
Kmart, a budget-friendly retailer, has recently become a treasure trove for those seeking to infuse their homes with a dash of whimsy and nostalgia with their wide selection of Christmas goods. In particular, the retailer has harnessed an emerging trend to their customers’ collective delight.
If you’ve wandered through the aisles of Kmart recently, you might have felt like you’ve stepped into a gingerbread wonderland. From the moment you enter, you’re greeted by a delightful array of gingerbread-themed decorations and food items.
But the trend extends far beyond, with clothing and homewares also getting the gingerbread treatment.
Rennie Freer, the popular retailer’s general manager, has noticed the overwhelming response to the gingerbread motif.
‘Anything gingerbread-themed is really on trend this year, it’s a really nostalgic twist on the northern hemisphere nod that we love in Australia,’ she explained.
‘It’s really iconic, and features heavily across all of our product ranges, such as the family matching pyjamas which are always a huge winner, and the beautiful Christmas jumpers. It has been going very viral this year.’
One of the gingerbread-themed culinary gadgets receiving much love from shoppers is the waffle maker priced at just $15.
‘I love this waffle maker. The gingerbread man mould turned out perfectly’, reviewed one shopper on Kmart’s website.
‘[This is] such a fun appliance! [It] cooks the waffles fast and [has] a good price too!’ wrote someone else.
The gingerbread candle, also priced at $15, has also been reportedly flying off the shelves. Aside from its luxe packaging, this soy candle offers a scent of ginger and vanilla’. “This is giving Glasshouse dupe,” one TikTok user said, comparing the candle to an Australian designer brand, which would usually retail for $60.
The trend doesn’t stop at waffle makers and candles, though.
‘The adorable Gingerbread Serve Bowl for $7 and the drinking jars starting from $3 are also flying off shelves,’ reported a Kmart spokesperson.
‘Our customers are loving the gingerbread theme. It’s playful, nostalgic, and perfect for creating a warm, festive vibe at home. From home decor to holiday baking, this theme is all about spreading cheer, and Aussies are embracing it wholeheartedly.’
Other gingerbread-themed items available at Kmart include crochet kits, plush toys, door mats, accessories, dresses, snow globes, LED inflatable decorations, novelty tongs, soaps, baskets, jars, and mugs.
As we gear up for the holidays, it’s evident that Kmart has tapped into our love for Christmas with a trend that’s as sweet as it is stylish.
So, whether you’re looking to upgrade your home in gingerbread finery or searching for the perfect quirky gift, this trend is a testament to the joy that can be found in the little things—like a gingerbread man waffle on Christmas morning.
