You’ve been putting on your doona cover all wrong: Discover the genius method you need to try!

As we age, we often find comfort in our daily routines and the familiar tasks that we’ve been doing for years. But what if I told you that one of those mundane tasks—putting on a doona cover—could be done in a much simpler, less frustrating way? Yes, it’s true, and it’s a game-changer for anyone who’s ever wrestled with a doona cover only to end up with a lumpy, uneven mess.

You might know the dance: the endless flipping, the shaking that feels like a workout, and the inevitable climb inside the cover to try and straighten it out. It’s a process that can leave you feeling like you’ve just gone ten rounds with your bedding. But thanks to a clever technique shared by lifestyle influencer Ashley Paiige, those days could be well behind you.

The method Paiige shared is known as the ‘doona method’ or ‘burrito method’, and it’s surprisingly simple. Here’s how it works:

  1. Lay your doona cover inside out on your bed, with the opening at the foot of the bed.
  2. Place your doona on top of the cover. Use the ties to make sure all the corners are aligned. If your cover doesn’t have ties, you can use safety pins.
  3. Starting from the head of the bed, roll the doona and cover together like a burrito until you reach the foot of the bed.
  4. Once you have your ‘doona burrito’, reach into the opening of the cover and flip it over one end of the burrito, encasing the doona inside.
  5. Repeat on the other end, then slowly unroll the burrito back towards the head of the bed.
  6. Give it a few shakes and fluffs, and your doona is now perfectly encased in its cover.

This method not only saves time but also spares you the frustration and the potential backache. It’s a revelation that’s been sweeping the internet, with many swearing by its effectiveness. And the best part? It works for any size of doona, from single to king-sized.

Now, you might be thinking, ‘Why haven’t I heard of this before?’ The truth is, sometimes the best tricks are the ones that are passed down through word of mouth—or, in this case, through viral social media videos. It’s a reminder that no matter how set we are in our ways, there’s always room for improvement and innovation, even in the most unexpected places.

So next time laundry day comes around, give the ‘doona method’ a try. It might just transform your bed-making routine and give you a newfound sense of victory over your bedding.

We’d love to hear from you in the comments below. Have you tried this method before? Do you have any other life hacks that have made household chores a breeze? Share your experiences and tips with other readers, and let’s make life a little easier, one doona cover at a time.

  1. Interesting! But what works for me (with our queen-size doona) is just
    – put the doona cover on the bed, outside out
    – grab one corner of the doona
    – pull it inside the doona cover up to one top corner
    – do the same with the appropriate second corner
    – pick up the two corners, holding the doona securely
    – shake it down.
The clever method may be quicker? but you have to remember each time how to do it! and I find that hard..
