Just because you don’t have a garden of your own doesn’t mean you can’t unleash your inner green thumb.
Located in an unused car park on a roof behind Federation Square in Melbourne, the Pop Up Patch is a collective vegetable garden that has been created especially for urban gardeners who do not have their own patch in which to potter.
The garden features over 140 veggie crates installed by Pop Up Patch (PUP) members, in which they grow herbs, fruits and vegetables. Members tend the garden for themselves, as well as for business and produce for local restaurants.
The Pop Up Patch offers people a place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city – and you don’t need to be good at gardening to become a member. Pop Up Patch don’t just give you a few seeds and send you on your way, rather, the aim is all about educating everyone on how to grow, harvest and prepare foods.
With workshops for both adults and kids, PUP members are treated to nights featuring movies and table tennis during the summer. And in winter, delicious soups are served made from vegetables straight from the garden.
