WD-40 has far more uses than just fixing squeaky hinges. This household spray can perform some amazing tasks and save you money. Here are seven things you may not be aware you can do with this magic spray.
1. Clean carpet stains
Forget about hiring a carpet cleaner to get out those tough carpet stains. Try spraying the stain with WD-40, wait a minute or two, and then use your regular carpet cleaner or gently cleanse with a sponge and warm, soapy water. Continue until the stain is completely gone.
2. Clean oil spots from the driveway
There are special cleaners and solvents available to clean oil stains from your driveway, but did you know WD-40 works just as well? Spray liberally on the stained area and hose the affected area down with water.
3. Condition leather furniture
Extend the life of your leather furniture by softening and preserving it with WD-40. Just spray it on and buff with a soft cloth. The combination of ingredients in WD-40 will clean, penetrate, lubricate and protect the leather.
4. Remove stains from clothes
Whether it is blood or difficult-to-remove tomato sauce, you can use WD-40 as a stain remover for your clothes. If you do not already have a stain removing spray in your house, WD-40 is a suitable replacement.
5. Make tools last longer
To keep wooden-handled tools from splintering, rub a generous amount of WD-40 into the wood. It will protect the wood from moisture and other corrosive elements, and keep it smooth and splinter-free for the life of the tool.
6. Untangle fishing line
If you are a keen angler, you may not have to replace fishing line anywhere near as frequently if you keep some WD-40 handy. The spray is great for untangling fishing line. You can also use it to extend the life of curled fishing line. Just take out the first three to five metres of line and spray it the night before each fishing trip.
7. Waterproof shoes
Not just for your shoes, but for anything that you want to waterproof, WD-40 will act as a barrier and water will be unable to penetrate the material. If you have leather boots or shoes, they will also be revitalised by a quick spray.
