Now that December is well underway, many of our thought will be turning to Christmas. While we may not have snow and winter wonderland scenes in Australia, we do still have some great Christmas markets. So, whether you’re looking for gift ideas, or just like to browse for yourself, why not try one of these three markets, or let us know of your favourite.
Christmas Fayre – Thursday 17 December
Hyde Park Barracks Museum, Sydney
For a gold coin donation, you can take in all the magic of Christmas in the grounds of Hyde Park Barracks Museum. This market definitely has a foodie flavour and if the artisan prices are out of your budget, you can always enjoy the free tastings on offer and maybe even give yourself some ideas for making your own gifts. Grab yourself a festive drink and wander around the museum, entry to which is free.
Yarra Glen Racecourse Market – Sunday 6 and Saturday 12 December
One of the best markets in Victoria is Redhill Craft market, but unless you’re quick, you’ll have missed it, as it’s on the first Saturday in the month. But fear not, many of stall holders will be at Yarra Glen Racecourse on Sunday 6 December and Saturday 12 December for the twilight market, from 3-8pm. Grab yourself some crafty gifts, or some homegrown, fresh produce. And given the location, you could combine it with a stop at your favourite Yarra Valley cellar door.
Bazaar Christmas Market – 4-6 December
Fremantle Arts Centre
Again, you’ll have to be quick to squeeze in a visit to this market, but if you can, it will be more than worth your while. Possibly the market that is most similar to the European type markets, this is definitely more about the entertainment, eating and drinking than the purchasing of gifts – although there are plenty of stallholders peddling their wares.
Have you visited these markets or do you have a better one in mind? Why not share your thoughts below?
