Two tradies become heroes in Adelaide: A daring rescue amidst a devastating fire

In a world where we often hear about the darker side of humanity, it’s heartening to witness acts of bravery and selflessness that remind us of the good that exists. Such a story unfolded on a seemingly ordinary day in Adelaide, where two tradesmen became the embodiment of real-life superheroes during a daring rescue mission.

The scene was set on Harold Street in Seaton, northwest Adelaide, where tranquility was shattered by the outbreak of a fierce blaze. It was around 12:15 pm on a Tuesday when the emergency services were alerted to the fire that had engulfed a local home. But before the sirens could be heard, two unsuspecting heroes were about to step onto the stage.

Solar installer Mike Ajami and his colleague were on their lunch break, driving past the area, when they spotted the large fire. Without a second thought for their own safety, they leapt into action. The pair jumped over the fence and plunged into the smoke-filled chaos to rescue an elderly woman who was in grave danger.

The 70-year-old resident, who had reportedly been asleep as the fire took hold, was in the backyard, disoriented and at risk. The dramatic scene was captured in video footage, where the urgency in the tradies’ voices is palpable. ‘Get out! Rob, push her, push her,’ they can be heard shouting, a testament to the critical nature of the situation.

As thick smoke billowed from the house, the two tradies managed to reach the woman. With determination and strength, they lifted her over the fence to safety. The woman, whose life hung in the balance, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, her life saved by the quick thinking and bravery of Mike and his friend.

In the aftermath of the rescue, Mr. Ajami humbly recounted the events. He explained that bystanders had alerted them to the woman’s perilous position. ‘Everyone was yelling, there was a lady at the back… no one was going to go and get her,’ he said. ‘So me and my mate jumped the fence.’ It was a decision that would earn them the title of heroes in the eyes of the community.

Neighbours and onlookers were quick to express their admiration and gratitude for the tradies’ heroic actions. ‘They’re heroes, they really are because she wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them,’ one neighbour said. Their selfless act was a beacon of hope and a reminder of the courage that ordinary people can display in extraordinary circumstances.

The house, unfortunately, was extensively damaged by the fire. South Australia Police have stated that the circumstances surrounding the blaze, including its cause, are under investigation. They have urged anyone with information to come forward.
