Woolworths has announced a big change to its fresh fruit and vegetable section with the introduction of Artificially Intelligent (AI) Scales in the produce aisle of all stores.
The new scales offer a quick and convenient reading of the product weight of fruit and vegetables.
The Tiliter AI Scale will accurately display the weight of loose products in the aisle instead of customers having to wait until they’re at the checkout.
Shoppers will soon wave goodbye to the existing analogue scales currently in the fruit and vegetable aisles and will say hello to a modern digital alternative.

The AI scales will be placed at a lower height to ensure customers with special needs, particularly those in a wheelchair, have better access.
A handful of stores already have the scales installed, but shoppers can expect to see them rolled out across the entire network of more than 1000 Woolworths supermarkets. Up to six scales will be located at the front of each fresh produce aisle.

“We’re excited to continue our partnership with Tiliter through the implementation of new, digital scales,” said Woolworths’ Head of Business Solutions – Customer, Retail and Emerging Concepts, Sailesh Shankar.
“These scales will help provide a better in-store shopping experience for our customers through both accessibility and convenience.
“We’ll listen closely to customer and team member feedback on the project over the coming months.”

This trial is part of a partnership between Tiliter and Woolworths, known as the Woolworths’ Scan & Go program.
“The rollout of Tiliter AI Scales across Woolworths nationwide is making the future of retail a reality,” said Tiliter chief Marcel Herz:
“With this partnership, a growing number of Australian shoppers now have the opportunity to use innovative AI technology in an everyday setting, as naturally and seamlessly as they would their smartphones.
“With this type of technology capable of expanding across e-commerce, this is only the beginning.”
