Podcast: Intimacy and sex in residential aged care

Intimacy contributes to our wellbeing and continues into older age, despite cognitive or physical impairment. However, the ability to enjoy intimacy and express sexuality is often compromised – or even controlled – when one moves into residential aged care. Host John Deeks speaks with Dr Linda McAuliffe and Professor Deirdre Fetherstonhaugh, from La Trobe’s Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care (ACEBAC), about a new national survey of almost 3000 Australian residential aged care facilities.

The study identified factors that influence senior residential aged care staff when making decisions about intimate relationships and sexual expression among residents. Listen in to learn about the findings from this ground-breaking research. For more information, visit www.latrobe.edu.au.
