It’s well known that pets can enrich lives and help the owners lead more active lives. Sadly, there’s a painful absence of official support for pet owners when they need to go into care.
As a result, many much-loved animals having to be surrendered to shelters. That’s why Companion Animal Network Australia wants governments to include pet care in Home Care Support programs and has commissioned an extensive survey into the importance of pets in aged care.
I chat with Trish Innes, the CEO of the Companion Animal Network, and Sam Jewel, the CEO of LifeView Residential Care, to find out first hand the importance of pets in aged-care facilities.
