Easy-to-read phone for seniors

Rumours are circulating that Samsung’s latest technology offering, a foldable smartphone that transforms into an easier-to-read tablet format, is already in production, with first sales planned for this year.

The electronics company failed to deliver on its undertaking to release a multi-screen device in 2017. And now the talk is that Galaxy X will be released before 2019.

Apple, Samsung, ZTE and LG are all racing to be the first to market with a foldable smartphone, with all four companies filing patents for the technology in 2017.

The Galaxy X is believed to be a three-panelled device that can be converted from regular phone mode to tablet mode. This involves the two screens that normally sit at the back of the device being folded out to create a seven-inch screen, which is almost the same size as the iPad mini.

If you’re one of the many people who struggle to read the font on an ordinary phone screen without the assistance of glasses, then the ability of this device to fold open, doubling the screen space, could mean a lot less scrolling and better visibility.
