Hidden iPhone Flashlight feature

You’re in bed with the lights off and you drop something down the side. If only you had a torch to shine some light on the situation. Oh wait, you do. Your iPhone has a built-in flashlight. Knew that already? Well, now you can adjust the brightness too.

How to turn on Flashlight

Swipe up from the bottom of the iPhone screen to access the Control Centre. Tap the Flashlight icon to enable the flashlight and tap it again to turn it off.

Flashlight works by lighting up the LED blub in the rear camera and will stay lit until turned off or the battery dies.

Note: Flashlight, like playing videos, will drain your battery like nothing else, so make sure that you don’t accidentally leave it turned on.

Flashlight is very bright – blinding almost – which is great in very dark situations but if you want to run it for longer without draining your battery as quickly, you’ll find the light adjustment feature useful.

How to adjust the brightness

For iPhones 6s and 7, running iOS 10.0 or later (where 3D Touch is available), adjust the brightness by swiping up from the bottom of the screen to access the Control Centre. Instead of tapping the Flashlight icon, press and hold it instead. You’ll choose between Bright Light, Medium Light and Low Light.

Shine on, folks.
