Apple has launched an updated version of its entry-level iPhone SE model, with 5G connectivity, better battery life and a new camera system.
The latest iPhone SE model has arrived in Australia and will retail for less than its predecessor.
Designed for the budget-conscious consumer, Apple’s iPhone SE line takes some of the high-end components from the flagship iPhone 13 – including the latest Apple A15 Bionic processor – and houses them in the frame of the older iPhone 6, but with updated stronger glass.
It’s perfect for those looking for the performance of the latest iPhone without all the bells and whistles, and will be compatible with app and system updates for years to come.

The iPhone SE would suit those who’ve been holding onto an older iPhone 6, 7 or 8 model and are beginning to find the phone’s performance lagging and updates becoming incompatible.
Featuring a 4.7-inch retina display, the SE is the only model to still feature the familiar physical ‘Home’ button on the body of the phone.
Starting at $719, $80 less than the previous model, the new iPhone SE will be available with storage sizes of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB and comes in three colours: midnight (black), starlight (silver) and red.
At the heart of the iPhone SE is the powerful A15 Bionic processor, which Apple says is the “fastest central processing unit (CPU) in a smartphone”.

The updated processor not only improves app and phone performance but also works in conjunction with the latest iOS 15 software to improve battery life.
It’s also the first iPhone SE to feature 5G wifi compatibility. This means much faster wireless download speeds for smoother FaceTime calls and videos.
The A15 processor also improves the iPhone SE’s 12MP camera with features such as Smart HDR to automatically adjust photos for colour and contrast; and Deep Fusion that uses advanced machine learning to do a pixel-by-pixel optimisation of images.
“iPhone SE has been an incredibly popular choice with our existing users and for new iPhone customers, thanks to its iconic design, exceptional performance and affordable price,” says Kaiann Dance, vice-president of global iPhone product marketing at Apple.

“This year we’ve built the most powerful and durable iPhone SE yet, with better battery life thanks to A15 Bionic, the same chip as our iPhone 13 line-up that also unlocks advanced camera features.
“With 5G, iPhone SE gives users faster downloads and uploads, higher-quality video streaming, real-time interactivity in apps and much more.
