Reasons to switch to a smartphone

While most of us have smartphones, the cost of upgrading your standard mobile may have prevented you from making the switch. If you need a little more convincing, here are five reasons why having a smartphone is a smart idea.

Affordable way to stay in touch
If you like to chat, making calls, especially to friends and family overseas, can be incredibly expensive. Even if you’re on a plan and have a set amount included for calls, this can quickly be eroded and you may end up with a bill you hadn’t banked on. Smartphones offer many different ways to keep in touch without racking up massive bills. If you ensure you connect to wifi, you can chat as long as you want, free of charge (assuming there’s no limit to your wifi) using tools and apps, such as Facetime, Skype and Whatsapp.

There’s an app for that
New apps are coming onto the market quicker than you can download and use them. However, if you choose the right ones, they really can make your life easier. Budgeting, banking, shopping, reading the news and even finding out how to get where you’re going are all made easier on-the-go with apps. You can even track your calorie intake, count your steps and listen to your favourite radio station as you go about your daily tasks.

No more fingers and thumbs
Smartphone screens are now so large on some models that it’s like having a mini tablet in your hand. This means there’s no need to scramble with fiddly keypads, struggle to read messages or indeed, fumble to open a flip-phone before a caller hangs up. Smartphone screens also offer the ability to increase font size for those who may be challenged by small text.

Never miss anything
News is now on a 24-hour cycle but to keep in touch, you need to be in front of the TV or computer screen all day. Using apps such as twitter or your favourite news source means that you have access to news whenever and wherever you want. You can even receive and respond to emails on-the-go, making life just a little easier to manage.

Technology at your fingertips
Technology evolves at such a rapid rate that it can quickly become overwhelming. With smartphones, the software that powers your phone can be updated easily, meaning many new features can be accessed without having to actually upgrade your phone.

Even if you only access a fraction of what your smartphone can do, it will open up a whole world of possibilities.

What’s your favourite smartphone function? Or is there a reason why you’ve resisted making the switch?
