Re-using stamps
This is a useful trick that can save you some money, especially the way stamps keep going up in price these days. If you are one of those people that put the stamp on the envelope first and then make a mistake when writing the name or address, you can get the stamp back off the envelope by using your microwave. Simply dab the stamp with a little bit of water and place the envelope in the microwave for a few seconds. The stamp will lift right off, and you will still be able to use it on another envelope.

Cleaning your cutting board
These items are one of the most difficult to clean in the kitchen, especially if you have used it to cut chicken or some other meat. If your board fits inside your microwave, give it a spin for one minute and watch it wipe down easily when you run it under a tap. Once you have tried this technique, you will never look back.

Sterilise your microwave
If your microwave is anything like mine, you probably let it get filthy in between washes. Cleaning it out then becomes a dreaded task. It doesn’t have to be difficult, however. Put some water in a microwave-safe bowl. Cut a lemon in half and squeeze some of the juice into the water before placing both halves of the fruit inside the lemon water. Put the bowl in the microwave and set the timer for four minutes. Take the bowl out of the microwave and wipe down the inside with a paper towel. The grime will come straight off, no scrubbing required.

No more tears
Love to cook but can’t handle the tears that come when cutting onions? Try cutting off both ends and placing your onion in the microwave for 30 seconds. You will be able to cut it into pieces with none of the normal stinging side effects.

DIY heating pack
Feeling the cold this winter? Fill a sock with long grain rice and tie a knot in the end. Place it in the microwave for your required length of time and voila, you have your own home-made heating pack.
