The Australian Army Band will make a rare appearance at the highly anticipated 11th annual Basel Tattoo taking place from 19 – 29 July in the city of Basel, Switzerland.
For the band’s third-ever appearance, conductor and commander of the Australian Army Band, Craig Johnson, has brought together the 60 best musicians from 11 military bands based all over Australia.
Craig says this year’s performance will be “traditional and yet unexpected” and will include typical Australian sounds and breathtaking voices.
The band will don their classic Khaki uniform with trademark slouch hats and, this year, will highlight the history of Australia and the relationship with the Aboriginal people, with the timpanists wearing kangaroo skins and the didgeridoo featuring as an integral part of the formation.
Basel Tattoo is the second largest tattoo event in the world, behind the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. More than 1000 participants from around the world will take part in the event.
