Flying Cathay Pacific business class from Melbourne to Hong Kong ticks all of my travel wish boxes. I’m heading to my favourite Asian destination, a tiny territory full of history, culture, East meets West cuisine and great shopping. I’m travelling with my favourite airline, and I’m privileged to be in the luxury of seat 20G in Cathay’s Business class.
The fully flat recliner bed measures over two metres, catering for the tallest of guests. The toggle is fine-tuned to allow you to sleep, doze, sit upright and work, or chat to your companion next door. The tasteful beige cotton doona is a snuggler’s delight. As well as privacy and comfort, other features include a personal cabinet for stowing small items such as iPods, glasses and notebooks.
It’s a smart idea to board hungry as the food and hospitality is extremely generous, with a selection of Portuguese wines a feature on my flight to accompany the multi-course meal of appetizer, main, cheese plate and dessert. And then of course the fine chocolate selection which somehow keeps finding its way back to 20G.
Time flies, literally, as I work my way through the entertainment offerings, watching movies, documentaries and listening to classical music as I do some long-ignored work. Cathay has just upgraded its amenity kits, so expect natural skincare products from Jurlique in a stylish pouch.
As we land, the entertainment gives way to information on immigration, onward flights, departure gates, our arrival gate and the number of the baggage carousel where your suitcase is tagged to arrive ahead of the pack.
As I said, there’s not much not to love about Cathay business and little wonder Cathay Pacific was named world’s best airline in 2014.
