David Attenborough down under

The Great Barrier Reef is enough to get excited about at the best of times. All that natural beauty – not to mention the vibrant colours of the abundant marine life and coral. But the Great Barrier Reef’s about to get even greater, with the addition of world-renowned naturalist, Sir David Attenborough, thrown into the equation.

Described by Sir David as “the most magical thing you ever saw in your life”, he first dived the Great Barrier Reef 60 years ago with rather rudimentary SCUBA and camera equipment, noting the experience for the “astounding and unforgettable beauty”.

In a journey that came full circle last year when Attenborough once again dived the reef, it was slightly different from the first time, now with a state-of-the-art submersible being used instead, alongside super high-tech cameras, macro lenses and satellite scanners.

With the eagerly anticipated documentary series on Australia’s prized underwater paradise having already made its small screen debut in the UK, Australians will be able to see what will no doubt be a stellar show when it screens locally in the New Year.

One of Australia’s strongest tourism drawcards, the Great Barrier Reef attracts almost 2 million visitors each year. And after Sir David Attenborough’s documentary, we have no doubt that number will be even higher.

Have you experienced the Great Barrier Reef? Will you watch Sir David Attenborough’s documentary series?
