Best-ever Bendigo hotel

There’s a lot to love about Bendigo and centre stage is the new Art Series hotel, the Schaller Studio.

A celebration of the work of artist, Mark Schaller, the hotel features timeless Scandinavian design enlivened by the bold colours and provocative creations of this artist-in-residence.

Guests stay in black and white ‘work spaces’ with witty artefacts, bold paintings, and constant reminders to get back in touch with their artistic selves. From the pillowslips which ask, If not now, then when? to the mini canvases with paints and brushes, Schaller Studio offers endless invitations to play.

Central to this ethos is the hotel entrance and lobby. Dominating the entrance are three key works by Mark Schaller: The Family, Big Flowers and Big Amy. Adjacent to these huge challenging creations are an invitation to explore, by yellow Likker bike or an Art Series smart car.

Inside the entrance lobby features the Pantry coffee shop and bar and large break out spaces with inviting leather sofas, chairs, tables, newspapers, books and more of Schaller’s joyful and provocative works screaming for comment and adoration. Happy hour is buzzy and wines are affordable. And later, time to rest in rooms featuring comfy beds, quilts, soft pillows and state-of-the-art (pun intended) technology.

Such a playful, cultured get-away surely has to come with a hefty price tag, right?

But no, The Schaller Studio at Bendigo is a mere $125 per night. And there’s more good news – continental breakfast at $10 is a steal and if you book direct, by entering promo code ‘DIRECT’ you’ll get a further 20 per cent off the room rate.

Schaller Studio offers free wifi, bike hire, etc. and if you love nothing more than a lazy Sunday in bed Sunday, an extra $40 buys a sleep in till 6pm.

Put simply, the Art Series Schaller Studio makes most other regional hotels look VERY boring.
