A relaxing or exciting holiday is never far away. Here are five beautiful destinations that are less than five hours away.
Indonesia
Jakarta – 2 hours 40 minutes from Darwin
There’s so much more to Indonesia than the masses of ‘Bali Bogans’ – so why not head to Jakarta, the nation’s capital, where you can take in the culture? You could also board an affordable flight to Denpasar, Bali and then take a short flight to one of the other islands. First on my list would be Yogyakarta, Java, for the stunning temples and traditional gamelan ensembles.
New Zealand
Christchurch – 3 hours 15 minutes from Melbourne
New Zealand’s picturesque landscapes have landed the country the nickname ‘Home of Middle-Earth’. Whether you’re fond of Tolkien’s works and their screen adaptations, or not, you’ll find beauty beyond measure in this neighbouring nation.
Fiji
Nadi – 3 hours 35 minutes from Brisbane
333 tropical Fijian islands lie only three hours and thirty-five minutes from Australia. Scattered throughout these islands are incomparable cultural experiences, golf courses, hikes, rainforests and more.
Philippines
Manila – 5 hours from Darwin
Did you know the Philippines is the fourth largest English speaking country in the world? The nation has a strong cultural background and connections to many nearby regions. It could also make a great stopover on the way to other destinations in Asia.
New Caledonia
Noumea – 2 hours 50 minutes from Sydney
For beautiful beaches and French culture and cuisine, you should consider New Caledonia. At less than three hours away, that’s more time you can spend soaking up the sun on this fun French territory.
And, of course, we can’t forget our fine nation when it comes to accessible travel destinations. Why not read about the top 5 Australian bucket list destinations?
