Discover Watarrka Park, our latest national heritage wonder

The federal government has added the Northern Territory’s Watarrka National Park to Australia’s National Heritage List, in recognition of its outstanding national significance.

Around three hours’ drive from Uluru and five hours’ drive from Alice Springs (Mparntwe), Watarrka is home to Kings Canyon, a breathtaking expanse of sandstone cliffs and panoramic desert views. It’s a must-visit on the Red Centre Way and Explorers Way road trip routes, offering spectacular landscapes, hiking trails, 4×4 tracks, and outdoor adventures.

Beyond its natural beauty, Watarrka is the traditional lands of the Anangu ngurraritja (traditional owners), who have shared a deep connection to country for tens of thousands of years.
