Filling up on delicious baked goods during a road trip is almost a rite of passage. Whether it’s stopping to grab a meat pie while filling the tank or picking up a vanilla slice to save for dessert, it’s got to be done. After all, it’s important to drive on a full stomach, right?

Ganmain bakery is home to the famous Ganmain pie. But there are plenty of other treats on offer, including made-to-order pizza with a sourdough base made in-house.

If you’re looking for something sweet, try their coffee cheesecake, French chocolate custard slice or a traditional doughnut packed with jam.

Wendy says: “Ganmain Bakery in Ganmain near Wagga. They are so important to just a tiny community. Bread is superb – and the meat pies even better!”

PN Bakery – Nominated by Janet
Where: 47 John Street, Salisbury, SA

As soon as you enter PN Bakery you’re greeted by glass counters full of tempting treats. The restaurant’s menu is suitable for vegetarians and offers a perfect breakfast to set you up for the day.

Janet says: “PN Bakery in Salisbury. They supply hot and cold baked goods to my local Mobil X Convenience service station. Everything I have tried has been delicious – pies, pasties, doughnuts, muffins, etc.”

Babinda Bakery – Nominated by Jo
35 Munro Street, Babinda, QLD

As well as all the typical bakery treats, Babinda also offers fresh, ready-made meals including lasagne, fried rice and potato bakes.

Jo says: “Best cream buns in the world and everything else is delicious.” Julie agrees: “My husband said the same, we bought two cream buns, had them, he told me to go back and get half a dozen, he ate them all – not in one sitting though!”

Sharps Bakery – Nominated by John

This is where the vanilla slice magic happens. Owner Kevin Sharp has been crowned the ‘King of Custard’ multiple times and it’s sparked a vanilla slice boom in the area.

Great people great food, wonderful service. Plenty of parking for travellers with caravans and trailers, so the perfect place to stop on a road trip.

Barbara says: “Richmond Bakery. It’s been a while since I was there, but I’m told it hasn’t changed! They have the biggest range of pies – the best I have tasted. Their cakes are delicious too.”

This bakery has been family owned and operated since 2006. Their delicious goods are freshly baked daily instore. The bakery has recently reintroduced very popular red velvet cupcakes.
