Five most comfortable travel shoes

What shoes you choose to bring on a holiday is one of the most important packing decisions you can make. With limited space in your suitcase and your feet on the line, it pays to be selective.

These five shoe styles will help to ensure you walk the world blister free.

The comfort of Birkenstocks cannot be overstated. The added support of a heel strap in their sandal collection makes for additional support and comfort, making it perfect for travel. They come in a wide range of styles and colours, and once you’ve broken them in you won’t want to take them off.

Our very own travel editor Leon Della Bosca takes his pair of Nike Flex RN Running Shoes away with him when he travels and says they are the “most comfortable shoes” he has ever worn. If you have a spare half hour you can gather around and listen to him rave about the comfort and practicality of these shoes, which you can “wear hiking or into a restaurant”. However, his personal preference to wear them without socks remains questionable. There is also a women’s version of the same shoe.

With its leather outer layer, breathable lining, cushioned insole, and flexible rubber outsole, the Ked’s Crashback Leather shoe is your perfect travel companion. Made for exploring city streets with its cool yet comfortable design, you’ll be taking these on every trip.

The Sedona Travel Derby shoe by Nisolo is three times lighter than your average shoe, made with soft suede and an extra light sole. It is completely collapsible and fits conveniently into the smallest of suitcases, perfect for travelling in style.

I swear by these shoes. I wore my pair nearly every day for two-and-a-half years and they still have life left in them. They may look like the kind of cool and casual shoe you would wear down the street or out to dinner, but don’t let that fool you. The Original Superstar Shoes by Adidas are robust and comfortable enough to wear hiking, yet allow you to blend in with the locals.
