I know the pilot: cheap flights app

This handy app tracks the cheapest available flights on the internet, cutting out the legwork (or fingerwork) required to research cut-rate fares.

Admittedly, the app has been met with much scepticism. You need only read some of the user comments to see that it has some trust issues.

But I can say that, although it may seem a little odd, it works. It’s a company based in Melbourne which is basically a cheap flight search engine and notification service for budget conscious travellers.

Here’s a sneaky travel hack you can use to save you big bucks on your next flight.

Firstly, download I Know the Pilot for your iPhone or Android phone, or use the website. Then find the cheapest fare to wherever you want to go.

And let me tell you: some of the fares are dirt cheap. At the time of writing, you could fly return from Oregon for $917, or to the Greek Isles for $659 return. Now that’s bloody cheap.

You can set up the app to send you notifications of when a cheap deal comes up, so you can check it out and book it before anyone else.

Now, you can’t book flights through I Know the Pilot, but what you can do is take evidence of that cut-rate airfare and head to your nearest Flight Centre, show it to a travel agent and they’ll match or beat that airfare.

Some other travel agents also offer a similar deal – matching or beating the lowest price airfares you can find – so, find that discounted airfare then get it cheaper from Flight Centre and enjoy the benefit of having your holiday managed by a trusted travel agent.

Have you heard of I Know the Pilot? How do you find cheap airfares?
