Stay at the Palace of Versailles

Soon you may be able to stay in a bed fit for a king, with the grounds of the Palace of Versailles rumoured to house a hotel in the very near future.

According to Condé Nast Traveller, a luxury hotel is planned for the 17th-century World Heritage Site that was home to both King Louis XVI and his infamous wife, Marie Antoinette. Also, the location in which the Treaty of Versailles was signed, officially marking the end of World War I in June 1919, is one of France’s most popular tourist attractions, with over 3 million visitors making the trek to the site 10 miles out of Paris.

Palace management is seeking an outside partner to transform three buildings on the property into accommodations. Located just outside the Versailles gates, the buildings have been in need of work for several years and will cost millions to renovate.

With potential partners able to make bids until mid September, the five star hotel will have 23 rooms and is set to be called the Hôtel du Grand Contrôle. While there were previous rumours of a hotel in 2012 that never came to fruition, the way the current plans are headed, you could be able to sleep at the Palace of Versaille as soon as 2016.

What do you think of this planned property? Would you want to stay at the Palace of Versailles if money were no object?
