The future looks bright – especially if you’re staying at the Marriott. The latest initiative from Marriott Hotels is the inclusion of virtual reality headsets as a form of additional in-room entertainment.
Trialling the experiment at two of its premium properties, the New York Marriott Marquis and the London Marriott Park Lane, the program called ‘VRoom Service’, allows guests to order a Samsung Gear VR headset to their room for 24 hours.
Pre-loaded with three videos called ‘VR postcards’, each shows a different traveller narrating their individual trip. With options including a woman in Chile, one in Rwanda and a man travelling through Beijing, the aim is to provide the experience of taking a virtual trip. With all videos in 360 degree 3D, Michael Dail, VP of global brand marketing for Marriott Hotels, says they are designed to be “holistic and experiential.”
An experiment in its early stages, what do you think of this unique in-room offering? Would you want to take a virtual reality trip? Or is there nothing like the real thing when it comes to travelling?
