Do you buy souvenirs to remember your overseas holidays? If so, we imagine you have been looking at these very fondly over the past 12 months as reminiscing about holidays past has become all that we have been able to do.

If anything, the current situation has highlighted the importance of picking the right souvenir or trinket when you travel overseas.

To help you with your souvenir purchases in future, Club Med has revealed the top-selling souvenirs from every country around the world.

Hilariously, the UK’s most popular souvenir is an umbrella, with many needing to purchase one anyway to deal with the country’s notorious wet weather.

The US, famed for its obesity problems, has unique American lollies as the souvenir of choice while our own most popular souvenir that visitors take home with them is a boomerang.

Club Med’s research found that textiles were among the most sought-after choice of souvenirs for those visiting African countries.

In Nigeria, Aso Oke, a vibrant, traditional fabric worn by Yoruba people is a popular item to take home. Fabric is also the top souvenir for Zimbabwe and Cameroon, while hand woven rugs are a top choice of keepsake for those taking a trip to Malawi.

Carefully crafted, handmade wooden artifacts, beads and masks are also very popular souvenirs throughout the continent, including Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gambia and Angola.

Traditional food is a popular souvenir choice in North America.

In the US, tourists love to stock up on classic American chocolate while those visiting Canada love to leave with home-grown maple syrup in their carry ons.

Drinks are a popular souvenir in South America, with rum topping the list in Venezuela, coffee leading the way in Ecuador and the traditional guampa, a cup made from a bull’s horn, the most popular item from Paraguay.

North Korea, a country notoriously difficult to visit has one of the strangest souvenir items … propaganda.

From postcards to posters, souvenir shops across the country stock government-produced propaganda designed to further idolise their ruler Kim Jong-un and his controversial policies.

Denmark’s top souvenir is Lego. While the plastic bricks may seem an unusual choice, they were invented by a Danish carpenter back in the 1930s and are reported as being much cheaper in its country of origin.
