Yesterday may have been Friday the 13th in Australia, which is a frightful delight for some, but if you’re looking for real-life monster mayhem, head to the Republic of Malawi.
As reported on www.eglobaltravelmedia.com.au, in the south-eastern African region roam lynch mobs of Van Helsing-like vampire hunters, looking for witches, vampires and the undead.
Malawi is one of the world’s poorest countries and belief in vampirism, witchcraft and other supernatural superstitions is rife throughout the country.
The trouble is so bad that the UN has evacuated its staff in districts described as “severely affected by the ongoing stories of blood sucking and possible existence of vampires”. So far, vampire lynch mobs have killed at least five people. Most often it is albinos being murdered, and their body parts are used by witchdoctors for magic potions.
Even though all this crazy killing is occurring, there is little effect on tourism in the area. Funnily enough, DFAT (the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) considers Malawi safer than South Africa, France or Thailand, but still warns travellers to exercise normal precautions.
Would you like to visit Malawi? Would vampire hunters or cannibals turn you off a destination?
