EveryAGE Counts, the national advocacy campaign against ageism (spearheaded by The Benevolent Society), is set to host a free virtual event centred on building a world without ageism this coming Tuesday, 24 November, 10.30am–11.30am (AEDST).
Featuring internationally recognised expert on ageism Ashton Applewhite and Walkley Award winner Jane Caro, the “Beyond 2020 – What’s ageism got to do with it?” event will take a deep-dive into how the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed deep-seated ageist attitudes towards older people, and how issues of age, and age equity, will become ever more prominent.
Ashton is the author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism and has presented to the United Nations, spoken on the TED mainstage and has written for Harper’s, The Guardian, and The New York Times.
Jane is an Australian columnist, author, novelist, broadcaster, documentary maker, feminist and social commentator. Her latest book “Accidental Feminists” is about the life story of women over 50 and was launched in 2019.
Co-Chair of EveryAGE Counts, Robert Tickner, will host a conversation with Ashton and Jane, which will include a live audience Q&A.
